Black History & Culture Celebration
Join the Dallas Museum of Art for our Second Annual Black History & Culture Celebration as we officially kick off Black History Month in the Dallas Arts District. On Saturday, January 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the DMA will celebrate the rich history and significant contributions by the Black community to the arts and culture in North Texas and beyond with artist talks, tours, art-making activities, live music, and much more.
Closing Performance: Cure for Paranoia

Join us for the closing celebration as DJ Brandon Blue gets the music started at 6:00 p.m., followed by Cure for Paranoia at 7:00 p.m. Led by frontman Cameron McCloud, the alternative Hip Hop band just released their latest EP, The Art Show, at Trees in Deep Ellum. Catch them at the DMA before their upcoming tour.

us for a chance to engage and connect with their community drumming experience.
Open Studio: Make & Take

Whether you love to draw, paint, sculpt, or build, we’ve got a project for you! Join Dallas-based artist Mikayla Magee in our temporary studio in the Tower Gallery on Level 4. Open Studio is FREE for visitors of

The Hidden Gallery: Revealing the Untold Stories of Black Artists Who
Shaped American Art with Form Creatives
11:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., South Concourse, near the Sculpture Garden entrance
Join Form Creatives for this interactive museum journey designed to highlight contemporary
Black artists during Black History Month. You’ll explore five key artists in the DMA’s collection
on Level 1 and then experiment with these artists’ styles and techniques through a creative
response activity. Pick up your Discovery Card at the Form Creatives table in the South
Concourse to begin your journey. This program will continue with workshops and activations
led by Form Creatives across the city during the month of February.

Photobooth with Nostalgia & Noise

Strike a pose and showcase your style for a Fit Check inspired by the artwork of Dallas-based Assandre Jean-Baptiste. Nostalgia & Noise have created an experience that's a selfie backdrop by day, but after dark you’ll strut your stuff for a professional photographer who will capture your unique and artful Dallas style.
Community Art Making in the Concourse

Have a seat at our community art-making stations located along the DMA Concourse. Follow the prompts and create poetry inspired by Toni Morrison, design your own DMA-branded button, or explore your own ideas and make something to remember your day at the Museum.

Dallas Music Showcase

Spend your lunchtime in the Atrium with special guests Taylor Morgan, Scuttino, and the St. Philips Drum Ensemble. You’ll hear a variety of musical styles and voices, giving you fresh insight into the live music scene in Dallas.
Dallas Film Showcase with Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF)

In collaboration with the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF), the DMA presents a special curated selection of short films by Dallas directors and filmmakers including Don Tortellini, Chyna Robinson, and Jerod Couch. Rhythm of the City/Dallas Through Our Eyes—A Rotating Creative
Engagement Experience

Join Dallas-based artists Ebony Lewis and Bobby Miller as they share an exciting new
commission that will be installed in the DMA Concourse this February. Their collaborative
work, Rhythm of the City, explores the vibrant and sometimes overlooked neighborhoods of
Dallas and shares what makes them special. Hear the artists talk about their own work and
get a sneak peek at the new DMA installation ahead of its opening next month, followed by an
opportunity to creatively share thoughts on your own Dallas neighborhood.
No registration is required. Seating is limited; first come, first served.
Arts & Letters Live: Namwali Serpell, On Morrison

On Morrison by Namwali Serpell offers an illuminating journey through Nobel Laureate
Toni Morrison’s expansive oeuvre. With contextual guidance, archival discoveries,
and original close readings, On Morrison is not only a primer on how to read one of
America’s most eternally significant authors, but also a general guide to reading great
works of literature.
This program is a collaboration between Arts & Letters Live, the DMA’s Literary & Performing Arts Series, and the Black History & Culture Celebration at the DMA. Tickets

Tour: Postwar and Contemporary Art

Join Dallas-based art historian and former SMU Summer Intern for Contemporary Art,
Bradley Petty, for a guided tour highlighting select Black artists in the DMA’s postwar
and contemporary art collection.

In 2025 I committed to writing and posting a new verse daily in an effort to put everything I had into my music career and into myself as an artist.
I started off the year with 12,000 followers with the goal in mind of gaining 10,000 by 2026, I ended the year with 370,000….
I learned more about myself in 365 days than my entire time here on this earth. I learned to love myself, I learned to push myself, and I learned it all while dealing with the loss of my mother at the literal halfway point of the year.
I told myself I needed to immortalize this challenge as a reminder to myself and anyone in the world that happens to come across this book that if a little black queer boy with mental illness and a dead mom arc can commit to being better for just one year - so can you.
We always say,
“oh I’ll just start working out after the weekend”
“I can start that diet after this-“
“I can stop drinking after that-“
“oh I’ll just work on that project tomorrow.”
